WARDOGS Engineer Guide: Building, Repairs and Anti-Vehicle Loadout

Engineers are the players who shape the battlefield. You build the F.O.B your faction fights from, keep vehicles and helicopters running, and you’re the answer when enemy armour rolls towards the Hot Zone.

It’s one of the most rewarding ways to play WARDOGS, because you earn XP with almost every swing of your hammer, even if you never fire a shot.

Engineer in one line: Build where it helps the objective, keep your faction’s vehicles alive, and hit enemy armour from the side.

The Tools Explained

  • Small Hammer – free at the start. Slow, but it gets you building straight away.
  • Medium Hammer (Support 3) – faster. Note that it builds a little less per swing in Season 2 than it used to.
  • Large Hammer (Support 8) – the fastest builder. Worth buying as soon as you can.
  • Wrench and Fuel Can – free at the start, for repairing and refuelling vehicles.
  • Light Drill (Support 1) and Heavy Drill (Support 28) – faster repairs, but drills need batteries.

Anti-Vehicle Weapons

  • RPG-7 (Support 5) – the first launcher you’ll unlock. Add the PGO-7 optic (Support 12) for better accuracy.
  • MAAWS (Support 18) – easier to hit with, and moved earlier in Season 2.
  • AT Mine (Support 25) – heavy (around 8.6 kg each), but deadly on roads vehicles have to use.
  • 9K333 Verba (Support 16) – anti-air launcher. Needs a lock-on, so use it against helicopters.
  • IED – a starter explosive for traps and ambushes.

Season 2 note: C4 has moved to the Assault track (Assault 4). If you want it, you’ll need to level Assault a little.

Keep Some Cash Back

Spend your money on tools and launchers, not an expensive rifle. Your rifle is for self-defence; your hammer and launcher are what win you the match.

How to Play Engineer: Building

1. Build Where It Helps the Objective

Building isn’t about putting structures anywhere you find space. Every structure should help your team:

  • Pressure the Control Zone or protect the Hot Zone.
  • Protect logistics – supply routes, vehicle parking and the F.O.B itself.
  • Give teammates defensive firing positions.
  • Support your vehicles with repair and refuel points.

2. Plan the F.O.B

A Forward Operating Base costs $7,500 in Season 2, so pick the spot carefully.

  • Close enough to the Control Zone to be useful, but not in the middle of the crossfire.
  • Near cover – a treeline, buildings or a reverse slope.
  • On a route your drivers and pilots can reach with supplies.
  • Think ahead: the Hot Zone moves, so a F.O.B that covers several likely positions is worth more.

3. Build Smart, Build Fast

  • Structures use Build Supplies stored in the F.O.B. Check what you have before you start.
  • Hit the yellow X when building. It adds far more progress than hitting the structure anywhere else.
  • Walls and shelters first, then firing positions, then the extras.

4. Know Your Structures (Season 2 build costs)

Structure Build supplies Use
Bremmer wall 32 Cheap cover and protection
Door 80 Secures buildings – close it behind you
Gate 200 Vehicle access to the F.O.B
Large Shelter 250 Protected space for your team
Bunker / Air Raid Shelter / Crow’s Nest 200 Hard cover and lookout positions
L81 Mortar 600 Indirect fire on enemy positions
MG Nest 650 Mounted machine gun covering an approach
Talon 9K-SAM 650 Anti-air against helicopters
Vanguard CIWS 1,200 Shreds incoming helicopters very quickly
Hot Zone Magnet 2,750 Pulls the Hot Zone towards your position

Defence Tip: An enemy that destroys your F.O.B is rewarded based on the supplies inside it. Protect it, close the doors and don’t leave it unguarded.

5. Keep It Supplied

  • Ask your drivers and pilots to bring supply crates and pallets to the F.O.B.
  • Build emplacements near where ammo crates are dropped, so gunners can restock.
  • Repair damaged walls and structures between attacks.

How to Play Engineer: Repairs

  • Park damaged vehicles behind cover and repair them instead of letting them be destroyed.
  • Refuel vehicles that have been running all match.
  • Repairs earn Driver XP (ground vehicles) or Pilot XP (helicopters) in Season 2, so it’s a handy way to level those tracks too.
  • Keep batteries for your drill.

How to Play Engineer: Hunting Vehicles

1. Pick Your Moment

  • Don’t fire at a vehicle’s strongest angle. Wait for a side or rear shot.
  • Stage near routes vehicles have to use: roads, bridges, gaps in hedgerows and F.O.B entrances.
  • Relocate before you reload. The vehicle’s crew now knows where you are.
  • Don’t waste rockets because you’re bored. Every rocket costs money.

2. Set Traps

  • Lay AT Mines on roads leading to your F.O.B or the objective.
  • Put them where vehicles slow down: corners, gates and narrow gaps.
  • Remember where you placed them, and warn your own drivers.

3. Work With Recon

Ask your Recon players to spot vehicles. A spotted vehicle is one you can ambush instead of one that surprises you.

4. Deal With Helicopters

  • Use the Verba for lock-on shots.
  • Build Talon or Vanguard CIWS defences at the F.O.B if enemy helicopters keep attacking.
  • Call out helicopters early: Helicopter inbound from the north.

Common Engineer Mistakes

  • Building in random places. If it doesn’t help the objective, it’s wasted supplies.
  • Ignoring the yellow X. You’ll build far slower.
  • Firing rockets at the front of armour. Wait for the side or rear.
  • Standing still after firing. Move before the crew finds you.
  • Leaving the F.O.B open and unguarded.
  • Spending all your cash on your rifle instead of tools.

Pre-Deployment Checklist

  • Cheap rifle and a few magazines
  • Hammer (Large if unlocked)
  • Wrench / Fuel Can / Drill + batteries if you’re repairing
  • Launcher and rockets, or AT Mines, if you’re hunting vehicles
  • Bandages and smoke
  • A space in your backpack for everything

Remember: A good Engineer is the reason your faction has somewhere to fight from, and the reason the enemy’s tank never made it to the Hot Zone.
