WARDOGS Assault Guide: Best Loadout and Frontline Tactics
Assault players are the backbone of the faction. You’re the one pushing into buildings, clearing trenches, taking Towers and holding the Hot Zone when it matters.
It’s the most straightforward role to pick up, but the best Assault players aren’t the ones who sprint at every gunshot. They move with their team, know the map, and make every grenade count.
Assault in one line: Push together, clear with grenades, hold the objective, and never get caught alone.
Assault at a Glance
| Main job | Taking and holding ground |
| Engagement range | 0 – 300 m |
| Progression track | Assault (rifles, pistols, frag grenades, C4 and breaching) |
| Armour | Medium – real protection without losing your speed |
| Works best with | A Medic close behind, a Support gunner covering, Recon spotting |
The Assault Loadout (Season 2)
Unlock levels below are Assault track levels unless stated. Prices are approximate vendor prices per life.
| Slot | Budget | Recommended | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary | AK74 or T-21 (both unlocked from the start) | TCX-SPR (Assault 20, ~$3,200) | M4 (Assault 28) or FAL (Assault 35, ~$6,500) |
| Optic | Kobra Reflex (Wardog 4) | CQ-2x Prism (Assault 12) | 2.5x Combat Optic (Assault 17) or 3x Tactical Prism (Assault 33) |
| Muzzle | Birdcage Flash Hider (Assault 2) | Muzzle brake | Suppressor (Assault 29+) |
| Sidearm | Judge or cheap pistol | Cheap pistol | Cheap pistol |
| Helmet | Light helmet (~$200) | Medium helmet (~$500) | Medium helmet |
| Armour | Level 1 (~$400) | Level 2 (~$1,000, 4.5 kg) | Level 2 |
| Vest | Small Tac Vest | Medium Tac Vest (~$250) | Medium Tac Vest |
| Backpack | Scout Backpack | Field Backpack (~$650, 12 slots) | Field or Operator Backpack |
| Grenades | 1 frag, 1 smoke | 2 frags, 2 smokes | 2 frags, 2 smokes, Molotov (Assault 13) |
| Medical | Bandages | Plenty of bandages | Bandages + IFAK (if unlocked on the Medic track) |
| Tools | Halligan Bar (Assault 1) | Halligan Bar | Halligan Bar + C4 (Assault 4) |
Medium armour and helmets unlock through your overall Wardog level, so new players may need to run light gear at first. That’s fine.
Which Rifle Should You Use?
- T-21 – the best balanced starter. Cheap, reliable, and enough damage for ordinary infantry fights.
- AK74 – free from the start and a solid all-rounder.
- TCX-SPR – the Season 2 mid-tier rifle and a strong step up at Assault 20.
- M4 – light, fast-firing and excellent with attachments. A great all-distance rifle.
- FAL – hits extremely hard but fires slower and costs a lot. Only bring it when you’ve got cash to spare.
Budget Tip: Start cheap, survive, and upgrade later. A T-21 that survives the whole fight is worth more than a FAL that dies on the way in.
Ammo
- Carry 2–3 magazines plus loose ammunition, then refill your magazines between fights.
- Match the ammo to your weapon’s calibre and magazine.
How to Play Assault
1. Carry Extra First Aid
You’re the player most likely to take hits, so bring more healing than you think you need.
- Pack plenty of bandages. Patch yourself up between fights, not in the middle of one.
- If you’ve unlocked the Individual First Aid Kit on the Medic track, it’s well worth carrying one.
- Bandage teammates too. It helps the whole squad stay in the fight.
2. Make Your Grenades Count
Grenades are your best tool for clearing positions without walking into a gunfight.
- Frags flush enemies out of rooms, trenches and from behind cover.
- Smoke lets you cross open ground, cover a revive or break line of sight from a sniper.
- A Molotov (Assault 13) denies a room or doorway and forces enemies to move.
- Cook and throw from cover. Don’t stand in a doorway to throw.
3. Talk to the Players Near You
Assault works best as a group of two to four players moving together.
- Call your movement:
Pushing left building.Reloading.Frag out. - Call enemies with direction:
One in the doorway, east side. - Stay within revive distance of your Medic.
- Trade kills. If your teammate goes down, punish whoever shot them rather than running away.
4. Know the Map So You’re Never Caught Off Guard
Map knowledge is what separates good Assault players from the rest.
- Learn where the Control Zone, Hot Zone, Towers and F.O.Bs are each match.
- Learn the approach routes into the objective, and which ones the enemy is likely to use.
- Know which buildings have multiple entrances, so you’re not surprised from behind.
- Remember there are three factions. While you’re fighting one, the other can be lining up on your flank.
- Check corners, rooftops and windows before crossing open ground.
5. Clear Buildings Properly
- Use the Halligan Bar to breach locked doors (it also earns a little cash per door).
- Throw a grenade before you enter, not after.
- Slice the pie. Clear a corner bit by bit instead of running round it.
- Don’t peek the same angle twice. If an enemy saw you, they’re waiting for you.
6. Play the Objective
Kills help, but the objective wins matches.
- The Hot Zone counts you as two players towards scoring. Get in it, and stay alive in it.
- When the Hot Zone moves, move with it. Get to cover in the new area before the enemy does.
- Help capture Towers, and join your team when it hacks an enemy F.O.B. The hacker and nearby teammates are rewarded.
- Use C4 (Assault 4) to destroy enemy buildables and fortifications.
7. Reset Between Fights
After every fight:
- Get into cover.
- Bandage up.
- Refill your magazines from loose ammo.
- Check where your team is.
- Then move.
Common Assault Mistakes
- Running in alone. One player sprinting into a compound usually becomes one more kill for the enemy.
- Ignoring the third faction. Watch your flanks.
- Saving grenades “for later”. Use them. They’re cheaper than your life.
- Healing in the open. Get into cover first.
- Chasing kills out of the objective. Your job is to hold the ground.
- Bringing your most expensive rifle on a new account. Losing it hurts.
Pre-Deployment Checklist
- Rifle, optic and 2–3 magazines plus loose ammo
- Medium armour and helmet if you have them
- Frags and smoke
- Extra bandages (and an IFAK if unlocked)
- Halligan Bar for doors
- A teammate or squad to move with
Remember: A good Assault player doesn’t win every gunfight. They make sure their team wins the area.
